Snowy Lights with Ginaya

Snow White

Last weeks photo shoot consisted of mother natures kind gift, 1 foot of snow!! David utilized this opportunity and took the shoot from the studio to the roof. On the roof he managed to capture Ginaya in a natural state with the surroundings.

Luckily Ginaya brought her wintery white fur coat which was essential. Granted she used the fur coat for her own purposes "warmth", the contrast between the snow and the white coat are slim to none. But against the brick the snow and her coat pop out and creates the main focus of the frame. Thanks to Ginaya though we did get some great shots and was well worth the brutal cold and snow.

Back in the studio where it was warm and dry David was able to capture some great shots. Soft, surreal  and sensual the three main words to describe the feel of the shoot. There were various techniques used to achieve such photos. First is the fact that Ginaya is super comfortable in front of the camera which is very important in photography. When a model is comfortable and willing to explore we reach great shots. Second lighting and visual objections are also very vital to photography. For the shoot we placed the beauty dish light behind a large fan and this created shadows and depth. Lastly is visual wholeness, when releasing the shutter you must visualize what the shot will look like.

I forgot to mention that Ginaya is an aspiring photographer as well and comes into the studio weekly to master the skill of photography and modeling. Like she says "The way to achieve greatness is to be knowledgeable from both in front and behind the camera".
